Microsoft announced a new milestone in speech recognition accuracy which could improve how we talk to car radio/navigation systems.
When a human tries to transcribe a spoken conversation in one take, they usually miss 5.9 percent of what they hear. Microsoft said, for the first time, it was able to achieve the same level of transcription accuracy as a human in its voice recognition.
This broke the current voice recognition record of a 6.3 percent error rate.
The company hopes to use the technology in consumer electronics products and said its working on improving it in cases of heavy background noise, such as the car.
