A number of introductions announced by Google at the Android I/O Developer’s Conference Thursday, will have an impact on the car audio market.

First, Google said 35 brands are now involved in Android Auto including Audi and Ford, and as we know GM (which announced Android Auto will come to 14 Chevy models).

Next, voice control is becoming a key means for using devices in the car. Google said it has improved its speech recognition technology. In a little over a year, the word error rate when you speak to Google has dropped from 23 percent to 8 percent.

Third, Google Maps will soon be able to provide turn by turn directions even when an Internet connection is lost or spotty, reported BGR.

Google’s main announcement was the introduction of Android M, the next version of Android which will include mobile payments, fingerprints sensor support, better battery power and features such as the availability of Google Now within apps.  You can see an overview at CNET here.
