VOXX (formerly Audiovox) today announced AT&T will provide it wireless data service on a worldwide basis, which will allow VOXX to sell its Car Connection worldwide.
“Through this agreement, we have the ability to expand outside of the U.S. and further grow the number of users of our Car Connection program….We have several programs under review outside of the U.S.,” said Dan Murphy, VP of Telematics Solutions for VOXX Electronics.
The Car Connection Telematics device plugs into the OBD2 port of a car to offer car tracking and insurance scored driving plus other services, including the ability to block texts while driving. It became available in the US a year ago.
The in June, VOXX launched an Insurance Discount Program, working with three insurance carriers, including Liberty Mutual Insurance, American Family Insurance, and The General Insurance, allowing drivers to save hundreds of dollars on their car insurance policy when they sign up for Car Connection.
The system may also be used for fleet management.
