App-Tronics introduced its second smart mirror for the aftermarket, a trimmed version of its SmartNav5 that now carries a lower price of $279.
The mirror has a large 5-inch capacitive screen with the same 600 nit brightness of the original model so that it displays a bright image even in sunlight.
It works with a backup camera to show the blind zone behind the car, but unlike the original mirror it does not have built-in navigation. The mirror, however, can work with a smartphone to give audible navigation cues and play music.
App-Tronics claims the mirror itself is smaller than most other mirrors. CEO Mark Tierno also says the screen is the first for a rear camera “that doesn’t get washed out in daylight.”
The unit uses a fast 800MHz processor with high internal memory so that it doesn’t freeze when linking over Bluetooth to the user’s address book. It can handle up to 10,000 names in an address book. The DVRs use an 8GB micro SD card and the unit has two micro SD slots.
The new Smart Vision also has dual internal speakers, Bluetooth 4.0 and an aux-in jack.
