MESA, the Mobile Electronics Specialists of America buying/marketing group, is in talks to add a window tinting vendor for its members.

The group is currently negotiating with vendors and hopes to announce it’s choice by fall.

“It’s another way to get customers in the door that haven’t been in your stores before,” said MESA Executive Director Ryan Gunter.  “A lot of customers are hearing about the benefits of window tint besides the fact that it looks nice and heat reduction.  It protects the interior of the car [from fading].  And it prevents skin cancer on the driver’s left arm. What better place than a [car audio] retailer to have it.  It’s a natural fit.”

He said many MESA retail members are already doing well in the category and will teach other members how to sell and install it beginning at MESA’s Fall Summit.

Applying window film requires a fair amount of skill and so training in the category is important, he added.

As of June, MESA reported a tally of 47 members with 143 stores representing $158 million in sales.  It recently launched a new membership tier for retailers in the $700,000 to $1.8 million per year volume bracket.
