New State Law Requires In-Car Camera For DUI Offenders

A law in Illinois went into effect this month requiring that repeat DUI offenders install an in-car camera in their vehicles.

The camera works in combination with a required breath alcohol interlock device.  Together they ensure that the offender is actually breathing into the device to test his breath alcohol level (and not someone else).

Last year, the breathilizer devices were responsible for more than 3,000 instances where drivers were prevented from starting their cars due to the detection of alcohol on their breath, reports CINews.
