Clarion said many of its late model radios work well with the beta version of Apple’s new iOS 7 for controlling music and Bluetooth
“We’re not experiencing the same problems we had with the iOS 5 and iOS 6 transitions,” said Clarion Senior Manager of Product Planning, Jason Lee. “Last year, with upgrades to iOS 6, a lot of the functions were broken. We had to use a software patch. It doesn’t seem to be the case this time.”
So far, Clarion radios tested allow full music control via USB and Bluetooth with an iPhone 5, 4 and 4S smartphone running iOS 7 beta. This is true for key 2013 Clarion head unit models and some 2012 models that have been tested to date, said the company.
The new iTunes Radio that allows you to create personalized music stations is also working with Clarion radios, according to early testing. “Our head unit can use track up/down and album art seems to work with iTunes Radio as well,” said Lee.
Pioneer said via Facebook it is testing iOS 7 in beta with its radios but will not make a formal announcement on compatibility until iOS 7 is released commercially this fall. Pioneer also told us, regarding Apple’s new iOS in the Car feature, “We are studying the possibility of integrating it into Pioneer aftermarket solutions.”
Kenwood said it is also “assessing and working on” iOS 7 in Japan.
