Samsung is planning a smaller, mid-priced version of the ultra-popular Galaxy S4, which made its debut a month ago and is already the tech giant’s fastest selling phone.

The new S4 mini will sport a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen and an 8 MP, rear facing camera.  This is scaled back from the original S4’s 5 inch screen and 13 MP camera.

Although a price and launch date were not announced, the S4 mini is expected to sell at around $350, said Reuters.

The phone might be an answer to the lower cost iPhone expected to be announced by Apple later this year.  The iPhone 5 currently sports a 4-inch screen.

The S4 mini will also weigh in at a lighter 3.8 ounces, compared to the S4’s 4.6 ounce frame and the mini will use a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor instead of a 1.9 GHz quad-core.

The mini will ship with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and will come in a 4G LTE version, a 3G version and a 3G dual SIM version.  It will be available in black or white.
