Harman NTG5 radio for Mercedes

Harman International said it has delivered a new infotainment system for Mercedes-Benz, which includes a built-in WLAN hotspot in the radio with access to free web browsing.

The radio lets users connect to select apps to listen to Internet Radio, check the weather or traffic and browse social media.  Users can also view maps, and get email and text messages.

The radio model NTG5 is in production for the all new luxury S-Class and will soon roll out to C-Class models early in calendar 2014.

Maps on the new system have realistic 3D models of buildings and route markers.   The graphics let you “see through” buildings to view your route.   The system uses natural speech for voice input of addresses and points of interest.  You also get HD Live Traffic updates.

Front and rear seat screens are networked for sharing movies, information and more.  The front screen has a split view mode so the driver can view one image and the passenger, another.

Also included is connection for iPhone and Android devices via USB or Bluetooth.
