Alpine posted an 8.5 percent increase in sales, reaching the U.S. equivalent of $1.69 billion for the nine month period ending December 31, 2012.   But net income fell by 61.5 percent to the US equivalent of $12.2 million for the period (compared to $31.7 million for the period a year ago).

In audio products, Alpine sales increased 1.4 percent to the U.S equivalent of $440 million.  The company said, “Alpine worked to expand sales in the North American aftermarket through sales for head units, chiefly CD players, and sound systems..,” but it said “the market environment continued to be harsh” and “sales remained the same.”

Audio products include single DIN CD  head units, speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers and sound processors for both aftermarket and OEM.

OEM audio sales to automakers increased with strong new car sales in the U.S. and a recovering Japanese auto market.

In its second division, called Information and Communication Products, Alpine includes AVN (audio/video/navigation) products, AV head units, driver assist systems (cameras, parking sensor), and rear seat entertainment products.

Sales in this segment grew by 11.3 percent to the U.S. equivalent of $1.25 billion, but they were impacted by competitive prices.

Under this segment Alpine mentioned it sells a new rearvision in-car monitor that is fitted with an air-cleaning system.  It also said it offered a navigation system with a 9-inch display.  Both are offered overseas.
