The Kinetik brand of high end power cells for car audio has been purchased by Universal Power Group (UPG)  of Rollton, TX.

The acquisition last month, will help Kinetik improve and expand its products. The company may also eventually move into lithium alternatives for the car audio market as well as expanding into high quality cables and wires for its power cells that are designed to help boost sound levels.

“Kinetik may be well known in the car audio industry but prior to UPG’s acquisition we were a small group trying to service much more than we were originally established for,” said Kinetik founder and Director Shannon Harmon. “After a month of working with UPG, Kinetik’s products have already benefited and are now 20 percent more powerful than earlier models.”

He added, “Our audio inventories have been more than doubled and we now have multiple factories setup to build product for us to our exact specifications.”

UPG is setting up three distribution centers for Kinetik in the U.S. (previously Kinetik had one).

Kinetik may also expand beyond car audio into car performance power products.

Former VP Sales Pat Szeman and national sales Manager Rich Scott of Kinetik, who were founding members of the company, said they chose not to continue with Kinetik.  They are entertaining new positions within the industry and may be reached at [email protected] (Szeman) and (419) 386-8115 (Scott).

Universal Power Group (UPG) is a supplier of power solutions and batteries, which reports about $90 million in annual revenues.

UPG said the Kinetik brand purchase will help it gain traction in the automotive power accessories market and also the luxury, high end segment.
