Plessey has developed a new way to help drivers stay alert.
Its unique sensors can measure heart rate through clothing and may be embedded in a car’s seat. Until now measuring ECG in a car required electrodes attached to a bare chest. Plessey says its sensors achieve the same end using capacitive coupling which can measure heart rate even through the fabric of a seat cover and clothing.
The semiconductor company will attend CES showing a car seat pad with an array of six sensors on the seat back.
