Harman announced plans to purchase tech company Interchain Solution of India, which produces Android-based in-car solutions.
The company also affirmed that it has plans to produce Android-based OEM radios and that it has “several strong enquries for the same from our OEM customer base,” said a spokesman.
He did not rule out possible use of Android by Harman in aftermarket products.
Dinesh Paliwal, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harman said, “Some of the freshest and most innovative ideas are being developed in India and other emerging markets, and we will harness this energy such that customers get magnified gains through use of emerging technologies and platforms combined with Harman’s highly successful and proven infotainment solutions.”
Interchain also makes fleet tracking, connectivity, and telematics systems.
Some of Interchain’s current customers include TeleAtlas, ALJACS Toyota, MapmyIndia and government institutions such as police & transport departments of various cities across India.
In addition to planned integration with Harman, Interchain will continue working with its existing customers.
