Apple is developing a 7.85-inch iPad said the New York Times, joining a chorus of other reports of a smaller iPad due this year.
The Times said the 7.85-inch device will be announced this year and sell at a lower price that the current 9.7-inch version starting at $499.
Earlier reports from Digitimes and Bloomberg also said Apple will reveal this year an iPad with a screen between 7 and 8 inches.
Meanwhile, Google’s new 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet, appears to have sold out of all pre-orders at key retailers.
Google’s web site is promising to “ship soon,” (1-2 week delay).
Pre-orders are also sold out at GameStop, Staples, Office Depot and Sam’s Club, said CNET.
The Nexus 7 runs the latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and has a 1280×800 pixel HD display, plus Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Pricing starts at $199.
