Amazon’s tax free firewall is showing some cracks. Like brick and mortar stores, Amazon must now begin collecting sales taxes in New Jersey, Governor Chris Christie announced Wednesday.
New Jersey residents will start paying taxes on purchases from Amazon.com starting July 2013.
Last month, the online retail giant also agreed to begin collecting a 6.25-percent sales tax in Texas starting July 1.
As for the N.J. deal, Amazon is also building 2 new distribution centers in that state, which will create 1,500 jobs and marks a $130 million investment by Amazon.
