Toyota is investing millions in a social network for your car to launch in Japan next year called Toyota Friend. It lets you interact with your car through Facebook and Twitter to check tire pressure, remotely turn on the seat warmers from an iPhone and remote start the car.
Toyota is investing $5.5 million, and U.S. based Salesforce.com is investing $2.8 million in the project. Plus Microsoft is adding another $4.1 million as part of a broader partnership to create a cloud platform with Toyota.
Toyota Friend is actually a private social network but you can access it through Facebook and Twitter. It’s currently in prototype and it will be offered on electric and hybrid vehicles initially, said CNN Money.
