It turns out that FLO’s demise will be 4G’s gain.

FLO TV Becomes AT&T 4GQualcomm has officially sold the spectrum used for the defunct FLO portable TV service to AT&T who will use it to bolster its 4G service, said the companies on Monday.

The spectrum found in the lower 700Mhz frequency band sold for $1.92 billion. It covers more than 300 million people and it reaches top markets such as New York and San Francisco.

Qualcomm will complete the shut down of FLO TV in March 2011.

Qualcomm began refunding consumers earlier this month who purchased portable and in-car Audiovox products for FLO TV’s 20-channel video service.
