Microsoft introduced 9 Windows Phone 7 models with the Samsung Focus to be the first to release on November 8 at $200.
As leaked earlier, AT&T will be the initial provider for the new Windows phones, which more closely resemble the iPhone and Android phones that have grabbed share away from Windows phones over the past few years.
After the Samsung Focus release early next month, two phones—the LG Quantum ($200) and the HTC Surround– will follow in a few weeks, also on AT&T.
Microsoft claims the phones are faster and easier to use. They offer Xbox Live integration with customizable avatars, and a user interface based on live tiles that light up with your information as you scroll. You can turn on the camera even when the phone is off so you can quickly take pictures. And pictures can be automatically stored in the Cloud.
The phones also offer ‘powerful Microsoft Office’ integration, said Microsoft in a presentation with AT&T today.
The Samsung Focus, which Engadget calls a Windows Phone 7 version of the Galaxy has a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen with a super slim design.
The HTC Surround has surround sound in a slide out speaker.
