Garmin’s outdoor/fitness GPS business has been growing. So it is not sitting around waiting for a rebirth of portable GPS-lust in the automobile, but it is pursuing the fitness market. Today Garmin announced it purchased MetriGear, a cycling equipment company in Santa Clara, Calif. for an undisclosed sum.
MetriGear makes an innovative, pedal-based cyclist meter. It has a custom force and motion sensor that attaches to the spindles of bike pedals to measure the cyclist’s performance.
