Sony PSP Phone Rumored for October

The long rumored PSP phone may hit the market in October if fresh leaks prove true revealing a Sony Ericsson Android phone bearing the PlayStation and Xperia brands.

Engadget says the keyboard for the slider phone has game controls instead of a QWERTY keyboard. The phone is said to resemble a mix between a Samsung Captivate and a PSP Go. It has a “long” track pad plus standard PSP buttons, a screen somewhere between 3.7- and 4.1-inches and it may run on Android’s yet-to-be-released Gingerbread (Android 3.0).

We will be hearing a lot about gaming phones by the end of the year as Windows Phone 7 phones should start shipping by Christmas offering Xbox LIVE gaming, according to Microsoft.

Apple has proven the category viable as 9 out of the 10 most popular paid apps in Apple’s App Store are games, says CNET.

iSuppli expects shipments of game-ready phones to grow by 11 percent this year to 1.27 billion units compared to 1.14 billion units in 2009.
