Ford Improves Sync Texting Safety

share on:

Ford is taking steps to ban texting while driving (but improve incoming verbal texts).

The company announced its new Sync (MyFord Touch) system has a “Do Not Disturb” button so that you can choose not to receive any incoming phone calls or texts while you are driving. (You can still make outgoing voice activated calls as per the video below).

If you still want to get your texts while you are driving, the company improved its text “readback” feature for the Sync. This feature has been available for a while to “read aloud” your text messages as you drive but it only worked with a narrow selection of phones. So Ford updated to a new Bluetooth profile that will be compatible with more phones including, in the furture, some Research in Motion BlackBerry models.
