Nintendo may be the next company to jump into the eReader market…sort of. It’s 3DS portable gaming device shown at E3 this week may offer WiFi access to newspapers and magazines.
In an interview with Japan’s Nikkei Thursday, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said, “We’re thinking about functionality where it will automatically acquire newspaper and magazine articles.”
He added that the 3DS’ wireless features will be such that “As you carry it with you while out and about, it will seek out and automatically connect with wireless LAN spots, and download information.” Not further specifics were discussed, reports andriasang.
Nintendo’s portable 3DS will offer a 3D screen that does not require special glasses. The device will have dual screens–the top screen slightly larger, at about 3.5 inches and the bottom display at about 3 inches. The 3DS will have 3 cameras – one inner and two outer – to deliver the 3D effect and take 3D pictures. It includes a motion sensor, a gyro sensor and a “Slide Pad” that allows 360-degree analog input. It is also expected to offer WiFi. No price or shipping dates have been announced.
