Sony may be a bit late to the 3D TV party but it plans to make up for it by blanketing 3D rapidly across its many product and software categories.
The company announced yesterday that its first 3D BRAVIA HDTVs are available for pre-sale at Sony Style stores and its new Blu-ray 3D devices will reach stores in July. Plus it announced the first 3D games for PlayStation 3.
Also, 2 earlier Blu-ray players and 2 home theater systems will get firmware updates to 3D TV.
Sony’s TV line includes the 3D BRAVIA XBR-LX900 HDTV with built-in 3D and two bundled pairs of glasses. Two other models, the BRAVIA XBR-HX909 and KDL-HX800 can work with an optional 3D transmitter and glasses. TVs are available in 40, 46, 52, 55, and 60-inch screen sizes from $2,100 (KDL-40HX800) to $5,000 (XBR-60LX900).
Customers can get a free Sony Pictures Blu-ray title: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and 3D title Deep Sea. They can also get vouchers for free 3D PlayStation titles: PAIN (partial game) and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (demo) and full game downloads of WipEout HD and Super StarDust HD.
In other product categories Sony will sell this July a 3D home theater system for about $800 with a 3D Blu-ray player and USB wireless LAN adapter plus HDMI inputs with 3D pass-through, and HDMI repeater function.
The new firmware update also converts Sony’s BDV-E570 and BDV-E770W Blu-ray theater systems to 3D and also adds DLNA compatibility to the units.
Sony already announced 3D home audio products including an AV receiver (STR-DN1010), sound bars (HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 3.1) and home theater system (HT-SF470 5.1). Also two current receivers will get 3D via a firmware upgrade (STR-DH810 and STR-DH710.)
