Ford Sync Gets Eco Friendly

Here’s yet another feature for the Ford Sync. Starting this summer, Sync systems will give you feedback on how efficiently you are driving (see video below).
Drivers will get readouts on their “mile-per-gallon” averages as they drive, for the past 5 or 10 or 30 minutes.
The Sync’s navigation system lets you choose either the fastest, shortest or Eco-Route. The latter can reduce gas use by 15 percent says Ford. The navi system will tend to avoid highways that are usually congested and direct you to roads that let drivers maintain an efficient speed.
Two factors that help reduce gas use is accelerating and braking smoothly and avoiding high speeds.
Ford tells us that the U.S. uses about 150 billion gallons of gas annually (as per the U.S. Energy Information Administration) and using eco-driving techniques, we could save more than 22 billion gallons.
Ford now describes its Sync system in two ways: the Sync is the operating system and the MyFord Touch is the user interface, but they are the same product. The new feature launches this summer on the 2011 Ford Edge and will be available globally on the 2012 Ford Focus. It will be standard on the Lincoln beginning with the 2011 Lincoln MKX.
