eReader Display Shipments Quadruple

This is not exactly a shocker, but the popularity of eReaders like the Amazon Kindle drove electronic paper display (EPD) shipments to a four-fold increase to 5 million units in 2009, up 417% from 950 thousand in 2008, says DisplaySearch.
Research director Hiroshi Hayase called the findings “a vote of confidence from consumers who seem to have embraced e-books,” and he expects momentum to continue.
The 6-inch Kindle captured 66 percent of the total EPD market in 2009 and DisplaySearch believes Amazon’s market dominance will only increase as the larger Kindle DX (with 9.7-inch monochrome display) will likely compete with the new Apple iPad (with a 9.7-inch color LCD display).
