MESA Closes Vendor Selection

The Mobile Electronics Specialists of America (MESA)— the buying group expected to represent a $1/2 billion in car stereo buying power—has closed its vendor selection process. We know that being selected as a vendor partner with the new buying group was coveted by many suppliers. From now on the group is focusing on selecting retailers.
MESA expects to announce 20 retail members by the end of the month and will reach 30 to 35 by the end of the year with an eventual cap at about 50 to 60 retailers, said David Schwartz, acting executive director of MESA. (There are a total of about 4,000 to 5,000 car stereo retailers around the country).
Schwartz plans to leave his post at MESA in May to pursue other opportunities in car and home electronics.
Final vendors for MESA include Alpine, Kenwood, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, Directed Electronics, Concept Enterprises, Hertz/Audison, HushMat, ATrend, USA Spec, Metra, and IXOS.
MESA is led by Mike Cofield, president of a leading car stereo chain–Custom Sounds in Austin, Texas.
