After a strong fourth quarter which brought Samsung’s consolidated sales to $118 billion, the company is now larger than Hewlett-Packard at $114.6 billion, by some measurements said the AP.
Samsung swung back to a profit in the fourth quarter due to demand for flat screen TVs and mobile phones after a loss of $19 million in the fourth quarter 2008. Consolidated operating profit for the recent fourth quarter was $3.18 billion said Reuters.
The company sold almost 11 million flat screen TVs, a record for any TV manufacturer in a single quarter. Its mobile phone sales rose 16 percent from a year earlier to 69 million phones for the quarter or a total of 227 million for the year.
