Bing May be iPhone’s Main Search Engine

A sign that an Apple-Google rivalry is heating up, Apple is in talks to make Microsoft’s Bing the default search engine on the iPhone, instead of Google, reports BusinessWeek.

Now that Google is in the smartphone business with its Nexus One and both Apple and Google offer smartphone operating systems, the TechnoLeaders are in full bore competition for one of the hottest growth segments in consumer electronics.

Which may explain why Apple would want to pre-install Bing–with only an 11 percent share of U.S. searches–on its iPhone compared to Google, which has a 66 percent share, according to ComScore’s latest statistics.
