SiriusXM Releases MySXM Personalized Music Beta

SiriusXM MyControl

SiriusXM is now showing its Personalized Music service in beta on SiriusXM.com.

Called MySXM (and sometimes MyControl), it works on the Internet only.  It’s available on about 40 channels.  Users can adjust a few settings per channel so that they get more rock and less pop, or more R&B and less rock, etc.  The choices of settings vary channel by channel with a slide control.

For example, on the 80’s station, you can adjust  whether you want to hear more music from earlier in the decade or later.

You can also skip a song you don’t like.

SiriusXM originally announced last May it planned to offer the service by the end of 2012.

Spencer Osborne of Sirius Buzz and Seeking Alpha said MySXM should help the satellite radio company reduce churn, rather than adding new subscribers.

On Tuesday, during the SiriusXM earnings conference call, interim CEO Jim Meyer said he also expects the new service to help keep subscribers “more engaged” and likely “to stay with us over the long term.”

“MySXM empowers our subscribers to create their own version of their favorite music channels,” he said, adding that  you don’t have to start from scratch to create a station, you can start with a favorite radio station.

You can try out MySXM here.   If you’re a fan of one of the stations, it’s a pretty cool feature.

The slider controls can be adjusted at any time, so if you’re in the mood for more rock one day and less blues, you can make the change.
