Ford recall due to infotainment issue.

Ford issued a recall due to the infotainment system overheating on certain Bronco and Ford Edge SUVs, or the screen image flipping on some Ford Escapes, and Lincoln models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published notices this week saying a component inside Ford infotainment systems is subject to overheating, causing the displays to shut down. This then interferes with the backup camera image, said NBC.   On other Ford systems, the backup camera image appears flipped or reversed.

The former overheating issue is due to a problem with the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM).  It affects certain 2021-2026 Ford Broncos and 2021-2024 Ford Edges.  The flipped image occurs on some 2020-2022 Ford Escapes and Lincoln Corsairs, as well as 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviators and Explorers.  In all, the recall includes 849,310 Broncos and Edges as well as 889,950 Escapes, Corsairs, Aviators and Explorers, or 1.74 million vehicles.

Bronco and Edge owners who are affected, can receive a free software update for the vehicles’ Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) either over-the-air or at a dealer. Letters to that effect will be mailed out at the end of the month.
