New “SuperSub” From BLAM

BLAM shows new unusual car audio subwoofers.

The French company BLAM Audio, distributed by MSC America in North America, recently showed two unique 8 x 12-inch “Super Subwoofers” for its 10th anniversary.

The 8 x 12-inch subwoofers use long-throw voice coils and have the same cone area as a traditional 11-inch subwoofer, said Chris Van Ry of MSC America. Power handling is rated at 500 watts RMS with a dual-2-ohm impedance.

One of the new woofers (BLAM S812) is in the company’s Signature lineup, made in France,  and the other is in its top-of-the-line Signature Multix Barrel series (the BLAM MB812).

BLAM’s Signature Multix Barrel line uses ten neodymium “barrels”  instead of one large ferrite magnet. The high-power magnets are centered around the speaker’s voice coil. This provides greater energy directly on the voice coil, and better ventilation, said the company.

The Signature S812 was demonstrated in MSC’s Ford F150 at the Mastertech Expo. Usually, the woofer in an under-seat truck enclosure is firing straight up or down. “The woofer’s oblong shape allows us a unique mounting solution. In this case, we fired the subwoofer forward, which opened up the ability to easily put 11 inches of cone area to use without needing a seat lift or shallow subwoofers with limited excursion,” said Van Ry.

The BLAM S812 and the MB812 are expected to be available in early June.

In addition to BLAM, MSC America distributes BRAX, Helix, Match and other brands.

Signature and Signature Multix Barrel speaker sizes are available in sizes including 2-, 3-, 6-,  6×9-, and an 8-inch midbass, along with 10 and 12-inch subwoofers offered only in the Signature range.

  3. I have 2 Boston Acoustic SPG-555… single 2ohm versions… one is in perfect condition and in use, the other was already blown when I purchased ît, been keeping a eye out for a rebuild coil & SPS (Soft Part System, I believe), but ultra rare.. It truly is a phenomenal sub, more of a SQL sub but with a xmax of 3 inchs, definitely merges into SPL range.. I’ve had it handle my Taramp smart 3K with clean electrical and non-clipped music without a issue.. Not bad for a 1000RMS rating.. All my mids & highs are also Boston Acoustic, as are the amp running them..

    1. Yes it dose, had two of them in the back of my Intrepid. Still needed a sub for stupid loud. Sq was great.

  4. Long throw my butt. Physics based on that shallow motor and spider landing says different.

    1. That motor is neodymium that is 10-20 times stronger than a ceramic magnet and although I can’t see the spider base on the magnet mounting plate I would expect a good size. I don’t see a problem achieving long excursions. Neodymium magnets are extremely expensive and I seriously doubt any speaker manufacturing company using them would skimp on the overall design.

  5. Thanks Amy for Blam Audio Photo.

These new products are truly cutting edge for the 12 volt industry!
