After announcing a new microwave radar based advanced blind spot detector at the SEMA Show last month, Brandmotion said it is now shipping the model RDBS-1400.

“Blind spot detection and monitoring is one of the most in-demand product categories in mobile electronics,” said Brandmotion President Jeff Varick.

Brandmotion’s system is unique in that it comes with vehicle-specific brackets to locate the dual 24GHz  sensors at the required precise angle to minimize false alarms. The system activates when the vehicle is traveling over 20 mph and will warn drivers with a visual indicator light at the bottom of the vehicle’s A-pillar when another vehicle is in one of the vehicles two blind spots. If a turn signal is activated while another vehicle is in the blind spot zone, a visual warning, paired with an audible warning, will alert the driver not to change lanes.

Brandmotion’s system also provides cross-traffic detection, helpful when backing out of a row of parked cars. When the vehicle is put into reverse, the system triggers the sensors to look for oncoming traffic directly on each side of the vehicle.

Car-specific brackets are available for 10 vehicles initially including the Mercedes C Class, 3-Series BMW, Toyota Camry and RAV4, Chevy Impala, Ford Escape, Transit and Fusion and GM Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon.  Brackets for other car models will be added in the future.

The RDBS-1400 has a suggested retail price of $799, or $899 with car-specific brackets included.
