Pioneer Electronics is gradually adding new radios and other products to its new Limited Distribution series sold direct to car audio retailers.

At CES it added two AVH series AV radios and it expects to add navigation radios, component speakers and amplifiers over the next two years. NEX models will likely be added the next time the line is refreshed said Pioneer’s Ted Cardenas.

New for 2017 is the AVH-X391BHS  and AVH-X491BHX. The 391 is a DVD receiver with 6.2 inch WVGA display, AppRadio, Spotify and SiriusXM capability.  The 491 has a 7 inch motorized screen at a street price of $360.

With the new models, the Limited Distribution line now includes 3 DVD receivers, 3 CD players, a mechless deck, a double DIN CD players and 10- and 12-inch subwoofers.

The Limited Distribution program was launched in May to help car audio specialists offer products that are protected from Internet discounting.  Its products are not sold through distributors, Amazon or Walmart. Stores that qualify for the program must offer installation or value-added customer service.

Limited Distribution products have slightly different model numbers than other Pioneer products to prevent online price comparisons. And they have a different margin and price structure.

  1. does that mean, we the independent retailers, will have the limited distribution product? or will we be buying at retail when a customer comes in locked onto a limited distribution product from amazon or crutchfield? lets think this through. i am available a couple of days a month to help you manage your line.
