Brandmotion announced a new blind spot detection system with vehicle specific brackets to mount the blind spot sensors at the correct angle, thereby minimizing false alarms.

Additionally, at the SEMA Show Tuesday, Brandmotion announced the company has shifted its focus to driver safety.  The company now plans to be “a strong influencer for the automotive aftermarket in saving lives with the latest safety technology.” (See story here)

The new blind spot detector uses highly accurate microwave radar technology for fewer false alerts.  It joins VOXX, Accele, and Rydeen in offering the newer microwave-based blind spot detector systems.

The detector automatically activates when the car travels over 20 mph.  Drivers see an indicator light at the bottom of the car’s A-pillar when a car is in their blind spot.  When a turn signal is activated, they also get an audible warning.

As an added feature, the system provides cross-traffic detection, so when the car goes into reverse, the sensors mounted on the side mirrors are triggered to look for oncoming traffic to each side of the vehicle.

Car-specific brackets are available for 10 vehicles initially including the Mercedes C Class, 3-Series BMW, Toyota Camry and RAV4, Chevy Impala, Ford Escape, Transit and Fusion and GM Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon.  Brackets for other car models will be added in the future.

The detector, model RDBS-1400, is expected to ship in December at a suggested retail price of $799, or at $899 with car-specific brackets included.

“Blind spot detection and monitoring is one of the most in-demand product categories in mobile electronics,” said Brandmotion President Jeff Varick. “We believe that with our radar blind spot system, we can significantly reduce the number of accidents caused by lack of vision in drivers’ blind spots.”
