VOXX EVO

VOXX announced it is supplying General Motors and other car makers with its next generation back seat video with wireless streaming and live TV via Slingbox.

The new system will appear on 2018, 2019 and 2020 GM vehicles. VOXX said it has won contracts with other car makers for the system, but did not disclose details.

Called EVO, its the first wireless OEM back seat video from VOXX and it replaces its DVD-based systems of the past.  It lets users stream media from portables or SD cards or HDMI/USB based devices.  EVO supports Miracast and DLNA functions.  If you are a Slingbox user, you can connect through an in-car WiFi hotspot and watch your same cable/satellite TV package in the car.

Pat Lavelle, President and CEO of VOXX said, “With EVO, we are redefining rear seat vehicle infotainment, moving far beyond DVD-based systems…We look forward to working with GM and our other OEM partners to bring the vision of the Connected Car to life.”

The new system uses larger screens, at 8-, 10.1-inches or greater for headrests, center consoles, seatbacks or overhead placement in the car.

The new EVO includes Bluetooth and distributed content playback so all screens can view the same movie.

The product is supplied under the VOXXHirschmann subsidiary, which includes Code Alarm OE, Hirschmann Car Communications, Audiovox Incaar, and Invision.  It supplies car makers including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Citroen, Daimler, FCA, Ford, GM, Hyundai, KIA, Jaguar, Mazda, Nissan, Peugeot, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Scion, Subaru, and Toyota.
