Garmin 2014 Advanced Series

Garmin announced a new line of portable navigation devices (PNDs)  that are its first to include Foursquare info, and which also can now more easily find stores in malls and airports.

Through Foursquare, the new Garmin 2014 Advanced Series lets users find the restaurants others like,  as well as the more popular stores and other venues.

“With information about tens of millions of places, Foursquare has built a location database based off of all the places where people actually go. We use this data to help power our personalized local recommendations…” said David Rosenberg, International Business Development Manager at Foursquare.

All of the portable devices in the line have 5-, 6-, or 7-inch screen with multi-touch for pinch and zoom touch control.

A new “Direct Access” feature makes it easier to find locations in malls, airports and other building complexes.

The devices give you split screen views so you can see directions on one side and lane guidance and traffic on the other.  They also include lifetime map updates and traffic avoidance.

The new line also uses Garmin’s Real Directions that gives cues such “turn right after the Starbucks.”  Some models include voice-activated navigation and Bluetooth for hands-free calling and access to a Garmin app that lets you access traffic camera images and weather.

The line is now available at suggested retail prices from $199.99 to $349.99.
