GM OnStar’s RemoteLink With Remote Start Passes 1M Users

OnStar’s RemoteLink that allows users to control features such as remote start from their smartphones surpassed the 1 million user mark, said General Motors.

With a RemoteLink app on a phone, users can also lock and unlock doors from a phone, and check  tire pressure and oil level.

The app has actually been downloaded more than 2.5 million times since in launched in 2010, but this week was the first time more than 1 million OnStar subscribers have used it at the same time.

Remote start is the most popular feature of the app, receiving 38 percent of overall app requests. This is followed by the diagnostic feature: Get Vehicle Info, which receives 35 percent of all requests. The navigation feature of the app – the ability to send directions from the phone directly to the vehicle – has also gained popularity over the past year, said GM.

Most of RemoteLink users are iPhone owners, although the app works also with Android, Blackberry and Windows phones.  Males are the most common users of the app, accounting for nearly 64 percent of the app’s population.

The app also now includes a Vehicle Locate feature to see where your car is located on a map.  This feature is available for OnStar Directions & Connections subscribers in the U.S.

In addition, owners of a vehicle equipped with OnStar 4G LTE, are able to manage their in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot from the mobile app.

OnStar RemoteLink is standard for 5 years on all new equipped GM vehicles.
