JL Audio is introducing new larger marine audio speakers for 2014, as sales for hifi systems for boats continue to grow.

JL Audio said it expects marine audio to continue to grow at a “healthy rate” as consumers catch the bug for higher end audio.  VP Marketing Manville Smith said that high end audio for boats is  “viral at this point. The market has awakened to high performance marine audio and we are still on the upswing.”  He added, “The more that people see it on the water in other people’s boats, the more interest is generated.”

Shipping now are new 8.8- inch marine audio speakers, which add an inch to the company’s earlier 7.7-inch models but offer 36 percent more cone area and almost double the excursion capability.

The coaxial model M880-CCX is also capable of  +6 dB greater low frequency output than the smaller model.

The company’s new M880-CCX 8.8-inch speakers use an over-sized 1.2-inch silk dome tweeter and a true 2-way crossover network. Power handling is rated at 125 watts RMS at $599.95 per pair.

JL Audio is also offering an  enclosed version of the speakers for use on boat towers.  The model  M880-ETXv2 comes in four designs to match all boat styles.  They use one of 4 clamp systems (optional) to affix on the boat tower.
