Audiovox plans to introduce at CES a wireless media hub, which it calls the next generation of backseat video.
The device will be able to store full libraries of movies and other content and stream it to various screens in the car.
For younger children, the hub would work with headrest screens. For older kids, the hub could stream video to a tablet or phone.
Audiovox is looking at many different wireless connections for the device in addition to cellular and WiFi including MirrorLink and DLNA.
Audiovox Electronics President Tom Malone called the device, “A wonderful solution for this transition period we’re in now, from traditional rear seat entertainment.”
The hub may also receive live Dyle Mobile TV reception in the future.
The Audiovox hub is expected to be demonstrated at the Audiovox booth at CES.
