Sprint said it launching a new service that blocks a driver’s cellphone from sending and receiving text messages and surfing the web when his vehicle is in motion.
It uses an OBDII device with built in text blocking and teen tracking services and is offered through insurance providers.
The program is part of Sprint’s Integrated Insurance Solutions program—for usage based insurance. Drivers may opt to have their vehicles fitted with the small Sprint device that plugs into the OBDII diagnostic port of the car to participate in the program. The device tracks and scores your driving and send the information to insurance providers.
Sprint plans to unveil additional text blocking options for insurance carriers in 2014.
