The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is investigating the need for a standard to guide how vehicles will talk to one another in the future.

The organization announced Wednesday, it will hold an intelligent transportation systems (ITS) Discovery Group meeting on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the JW Marriott Cherry Creek in Denver to explore the topic.

The event will include speakers from the federal government and the CE industry. The presentations will be followed by an open discussion on what CEA should do to help advance vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communications and broadband access in vehicles.

“Two-way communications among vehicles, between vehicles and the transportation infrastructure, and between vehicles and the telecommunications infrastructure are growing rapidly and will continue to grow for years to come,” said James Tranchina, VP Engineering, Voxx International, and co-chair of CEA’s Portable, Handheld and In-Vehicle Electronics Committee. “I look forward to a very productive discussion in Denver next month.”

The meeting of the ITS Discovery Group, which will be chaired by Tranchina, will be one part of the week-long CEA Technology & Standards Forum. Anyone with an interest in the subject is encouraged to attend. To register for the event visit: CE.org/Events-and-Awards/Events/2013/Tech-Standards-Spring-Forum.

CEA’s standards program includes more than 1,200 members across 50 different groups. To become involved in any of these groups, please visit standards.ce.org.
