Delphi Vehicle Diagnostics

Delphi, together with Verizon Wireless released Thursday its Vehicle Diagnostics by Delphi device that offers car-to-cloud connectivity.

First announced at CES in January, the device plugs into the car’s OBDII port to track and locate your car and access certain car features using a smartphone, tablet or computer. It works with most vehicles sold in the U.S. from 1996 onward.

The device monitors the health status of the car and can report why a check engine light lit up.   It also sends an email to alert the driver of certain performance issues.   It provides car location and live tracking with geo-fencing.  So if your teen leaves a proscribed area, you get an email alert. And it performs certain concierge features like remote door lock/unlock.

The car device works with an app and pairs with your Android or iOS device over Bluetooth.

Pricing is $249 for the initial fee on contract plus monthly service fees. If you are currently on a Verizon Share Everything plan the fee is an additional $5 per month.  If not, the fee is $35 per month according to a Verizon representattve.
