Absolute Audio began shipping last week a single DIN car radio receiver with a detachable 11-inch screen.
The model AVH-1100ABT has a tablet-like touchscreen with a built-in analog tuner. It is not a true tablet, but when detached it serves as a slab-style analog TV.
A second version with a true Android tablet and 11.2 inch detachable screen will ship in April. It will run Android 4.1 on a dual core processor.
Absolute Audio’s Ron Osmena says the initial deck/tablet has developed a small cult following of people who want the larger screen. The company received over 1,000 emails inquiring about it after it was first shown at SEMA in the fall. It sold out of an initial shipment and is almost sold out of a second shipment.
The deck portion of the unit includes Bluetooth, AM/FM radio, front USB input, rear camera and subwoofer input, and audio/video outputs.
The AVH-1100ABT carries a $499.99 suggested retail price for the system. The Android version, model AVH-1100AN will carry a price of $599.
