Distributor Expands Into Car Audio

DOW Electronics based in Tampa, FL has long been a distributor for satellite video (Dish Network) and related fields.  It has always had a small profile in car audio, acting as the Sony Mobile audio distributor  for the Southeast for over ten years, but now it is aggressively expanding into other brands for both car and marine audio and home theater.

For the past 4 to 5 months it has been adding brands and last week it announced the addition of Kenwood car audio.  It also now stocks Rosen, Audiovox, iDataLink, Arc Audio, Hushmat, Compustar, Echomaster, EasyGO, Blues, Farenheit, Scosche, and Mobile Solutions.

It plans to add a couple more brands by the end of the month.

“As we saw our satellite dealers’ ability to broaden their offerings with home theater, we saw an opportunity, as a distributor, to cross market to other dealer bases, one being car stereo.  We want to be a one-stop-shop for all dealers in the Southeast,” said Executive VP John Yodzis.

He hopes to grow the car audio business by 40 to 60 percent in the next year or two, using the company’s 14 distribution centers and 27 outside sales reps.  (It plans to add more reps).

We noted that the car audio market has been contracting.  Yodzis said, “ We knew it was a market that had seen its peak and started dropping off.  For us, it’s a growth market.  We truly believe, we’ve yet to see all the innovation in Internet connectivity in the car, and the industry is primed for another innovation.  You are starting to see it with hot spots in cars.”
