Audison (Elettromedia)  showed during CES last week a 250GB storage device to deliver in-car audiophile quality music FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec ).

To get true audiophile sound from car audio equipment the source music must also be of audiophile caliber.  So for those who want uncompressed music, the device is the first FLAC, high resolution media server for the car, Audison said.

Called the Bit Play, it provides true digital output up to 24 bit, 192kHz, offering much higher resolution than a compact disc.

Users may also store HD video files, and the device offers an HDMI port and a LAN port for a wireless router to communicate with a computer at home.

Audison estimates it takes about 5 minutes to download an album to the device.  “It’s an iPod on steroids,” said Audison’s Larry Penn.   The Bit Play can also work with an Audison Bit One or Bit Ten processor and Audison amplifiers or components from other brands.   It can also store wav and other files.

The Bit Play is expected to ship around July/August at $600.
