It’s not like car stereo companies have the ad budgets of the Frito-Lay Company, so when you’ve got a 12-volt product like the OnStar retail mirror, appearing on Celebrity Apprentice as it did Sunday night, it’s noteworthy.

OnStar on Celebrity ApprenticeThe show attracted 8 million viewers according to Nielsen TV Ratings, said OnStar.  And OnStar’s Web traffic rose 35 percent compared to the previous Sunday, it said.

Also, OnStar said Tuesday, that it received 10,000 hits within 24 hours, when it launched a fit guide so consumers can check if the upcoming retail mirror will fit in their car. The guide is on OnStar.com.

On Celebrity Apprentice, the second half of the show was devoted to OnStar.

Celebrities had to create a TV commercial to introduce the new product and explain that now it may be purchased at retailers and that it will work in almost any car, not just GM cars.

Nice to have Donald Trump, Meatloaf, Li’l John, John Rich and other celebrities, all focused on pitching a 12-volt product.

The $299 OnStar mirror is due at retailers at the end of June.
